Gubbio, Medieval City in Umbria
The ancient medieval town of Umbria

The quiet town of Gubbio, rich in history and monuments, is a town worth to visit if you have chosen to stay in one of our villas for rent in Umbria.
Traditionally considered as "the city of fools" because of the ancient habit of giving the "fool’s licence" to those who tour three times in once around the namesake Fountain, Gubbio is a place to see if you love medieval style and cultural artistic itineraries.
In Gubbio there are several monuments, mostly made of stones, to visit: the city wall dating from the late thirteenth century which has some decorations and coats of arms of the ancient city, the Palazzo dei Consoli that houses the Civic Museum and the Palazzo del Podestà where today the town hall is located.
The town of Gubbio has also some beautiful churches such as St. Augustine, St. Dominic, St. Peter and St. John, the Church of Victorina and the Basilica of St. Ubaldo. There is also an ancient Roman theater of the late first century BC.
For all the good food lovers, the traditional cuisine consists of white truffle, the "friccò", an Umbrian chicken based recipe served with the "crescia", the typical bread of Gubbio, and the "pan caciato" with cheese, pecorino or caciotta cut in pieces.
